Choosing an Engravable Cross Pendant: A Practical Guide

Choosing an engravable cross pendant involves more than picking a finish color. Pendant dimensions, cross shape, chain length, and the kind of message you want to add all help narrow the choice. Comparing those details first makes it easier to choose a necklace for a faith connection, a milestone, or a remembrance without guessing from photographs alone.

ROCO’s three cross styles are all stainless steel. Each costs $30, including front engraving and optional back engraving at no extra charge. Each purchase includes one necklace, a ROCO pouch, and free US shipping. The useful differences are in their proportions, chain styles, and available finish colors.

Compare the three cross necklace styles

ROCO cross pendant dimensions, chains, and finishes
Style Pendant specifications Chain Finish colors
Cross Bar Necklace 35 × 6 mm; 2 mm thick 45 cm plus 5 cm extender Gold, Silver
Flat Cross Necklace—Bold Chain 30 mm wide × 70 mm tall; arms and stem 5 mm wide 58 cm, bold open-link Gold, Silver, Black
Rounded Cross Necklace—Fine Chain 30 mm wide × 70 mm tall; arms and stem 4 mm wide 60 cm, finer closely linked Gold, Silver, Black

Choose the pendant proportions first

The Cross Bar is the narrower option, with a bar-shaped pendant and a cross positioned on the left or right as viewed from the front. It offers a different outline from the two full-cross designs. If you want a slim bar with a short personal inscription, those dimensions are a useful starting point.

The Flat Cross and Rounded Cross share the same overall width and height: 30 × 70 mm. Their arms and stems differ in width, at 5 mm for the Flat Cross and 4 mm for the Rounded Cross. Compare those details alongside the product photographs rather than assuming the necklaces are identical because their outer dimensions match.

A practical way to judge scale is to mark the pendant dimensions on paper. This gives you a physical reference for size; a close-up product photo alone cannot tell you how large the pendant will feel beside your usual jewelry.

Consider the chain as part of the design

The Cross Bar comes with a 45 cm chain and a 5 cm extender. The Flat Cross uses a 58 cm bold open-link chain, while the Rounded Cross has a 60 cm finer, closely linked chain. Chain length and link appearance are separate considerations: decide whether you prefer a bolder or finer chain as well as which length suits your intended look.

Measure a necklace you already wear, or use a piece of string to compare the listed lengths. Where a pendant rests will depend on the wearer and clothing, so a chain measurement is more useful than a promise that it will sit at a particular point on everyone.

Match the wording to the actual product

The Cross Bar supports up to 20 characters per side in a centered single line within the clear metal area. That makes a short name, date, or verse reference a straightforward place to begin. For counted examples and a proofreading checklist, read Engraving a Cross Necklace: Names, Dates & Verses.

Use the selected product’s designer to check which wording fits; the Cross Bar’s 20-character allowance does not apply to every style. A larger outline is not, by itself, confirmation that a full verse or longer message will fit.

Review finish and preview expectations

Gold, Silver, and Black describe finish colors, not solid precious metals. Choose the available finish that suits the look you want; there is no reason to assume that one color always produces the best engraving contrast.

Designers illustrate wording placement. Finished contrast can vary with lighting and finish. Front and back previews show one necklace, and a back preview using the front photograph is a reference rather than an actual reverse-side photograph.

  • Start with shape: slim cross bar, flat cross, or rounded cross.
  • Check the measurements: compare pendant size and chain length with something familiar.
  • Finish with the wording: confirm the selected designer’s requirements and proofread both sides before submitting.
